KIRAN Cymru is a non-political, non-religious strategic grassroots organisation committed to promoting equality, wellbeing and resilience of communities across Wales. We aim to Engage, Educate, and Empower people of all generations by creating safe and inclusive spaces where individuals from diverse backgrounds can connect with friends, family, neighbours, and build new relationships.
Through activities centred on arts, culture, and heritage, we encourage people to learn from one another, celebrate diversity, and feel empowered within their communities. Our work is entirely volunteer-led, and we proudly serve communities across Wales.
KIRAN Cymru is open to everyone, with a particular focus on supporting people from ethnic minority backgrounds.
We have Community-Led-programmes (CLP) running consistently and regularly on the following four themes:
1. Live Well Cymru
Engaging intergenerational participants from diverse backgrounds in active, non-judgemental, non-political, and non-religious environments through activities based on Arts, Culture, Heritage and Sports.
2. South Asian Heritage Society Wales
A dedicated research programme exploring the Intangible Cultural heritage of South Asian diaspora living in Wales, and the shared history and heritage between the United Kingdom and the Indian Subcontinent (1600–1950 AD).
This programme supports research, documentation, and public education relating to historical connections, migration, and cultural exchange. This programme includes:
3. Aequitas 360
Social Justice and Human Rights Research & Consultancy. This programme includes the following activities:
4. Volunteer Square: Structured programmes designed to promote volunteering individually and collectively.
Our Programmes Vs Projects
Our programmes are ongoing and shaped by the needs of the people we serve, as well as the gaps identified within the wider socio-economic environment. All KIRAN Cymru members bring lived experience of marginalisation, which informs and strengthens our work. As a bottom-up organisation, we actively listen to community members through continuous formal and informal engagement. We empower individuals to identify the challenges they face, reflect on barriers, and propose solutions that are meaningful to them. Guided by this feedback, along with our organisational themes, constitutional remit, and available resources, we develop and select our projects.
Our projects are time-bound initiatives designed to address specific socio-economic issues or mitigate their impact. While project outputs respond directly to current challenges, their outcomes contribute to our longer-term programmes, which are ongoing and evolving.
At any given time, we deliver a range of projects that collectively support our vision and aims through community-led programmes.
If you are interested in joining KIRAN Cymru as a volunteer, service user, or both, we would be delighted to welcome you. Please get in touch to learn more about our projects and activities.
